NYC musts: Flushing meadows

Image: Wikipedia

Anyone who visits NYC simply has to visit the Flushing meadows/Corona Park in Queens. The park is full of incredibly ugly, seemingly abandoned concrete buildings from the 1939/40 and 1964/65 World's fairs. It is a stunning place that many tourists (and New Yorkers) seem to be unaware of.

My personal favorite is the Queens Museum of Arts, situated right in the middle of the park, just next to the big world globe fountain. My friend Anders recently blogged about the museum's NYC panorama.

what a funny thing to collect old buildings in one place like that... makes me think of all these people that have the most absurd collections at home. I know I guy who collects fire men helmets. And the other week i saw a guy on Tv who collects "grävmaskiner". And then I read about a guy who collects old ATMs. And I thought I was weird for having a lot of shoes.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It almost feels like a dinosaur park or something. Very impressive. It must have been even more impressive during the actual fair back in the 60's.
